Victorian Grand Tour Lava Cameo Cherub Brooch
This Victorian lava cameo brooch depicts a pair of cherubs with finely carved faces and feathered wings, cut from warm brownish-khaki hued lava stone. Likely acquired as a Grand Tour souvenir in the 19th century, it is mounted to a secure base metal pin and measures 40mm x 19.5mm (about 1.5 inches wide). At 6.5 grams, it is light to wear yet detailed in its carving. This is a lovely example of sentimental Victorian cherub jewelry.
