Victorian High Relieve Bacchante Cameo Brooch
This Victorian high-relief cameo brooch depicts a Bacchante figure —a classic Neoclassical motif. Carved in creamy white stone, the portrait is mounted in a yellow gold bezel frame with rope detail. The brooch has been well-loved, showing age-related wear, including surface wear to the face and evidence of an older repair to the bezel with soldered reinforcement. The bezel tests at 10K with base metal repairs to the reverse of the brooch. Despite these signs of age, the cameo is secure in its mounting and remains a striking antique piece. The beautifully carved figure stands out, holding a cluster of grapes, with more grapes in her hair. Her robes are expertly carved. This lovely piece of history will be at home in any vintage jewelry collection.
